Planting

This is where things can get tricky when it comes to potatoes. If you have “Seasonal Growth” enabled, you need to plant the potatoes at the right time of the year, otherwise, they won’t grow. For potatoes, you plant them between March to April and harvest them between August and September.

Harvesting

Harvesting is a tricky business at times in FS22, as you don’t want to destroy the crops so soon after they’ve grown. When you’re harvesting the potatoes, you should fit narrower tyres to your tractor’s wheels to prevent this from happening. If you have crop destruction turned off though, you don’t need to worry about this.

Plowing Equipment

Potato is a root crop, which means you need to plow the fields after every harvest. You can plow the fields with a Plow, Subsoiler or Spader, but I recommend the Subsoiler for its shape and speed.

Sprayers, Weeders and Hoes

Weeds grow amongst your crops as they’re growing. You can take care of weeds with a simple Weeder or a How. The difference is that Weeders will only pull out small grown weeds and Hoes pull out Small and Medium Grown Weeds. If you have the time to pull the weeds immediately, then all you need is a Weeder, otherwise, you will need a How.

Harvesting Equipment

Once your crops are ready, you will have to harvest them and you can do so with a vehicle exclusively dedicated to harvesting potatoes. You can find this vehicle in Vehicles/Potato Technology, but this one costs $599,000.

Trailer for Transport

Of course, you will need a trailer to transport your potatoes before you can sell them. You can get any trailer in the Tools/Trailers section as long as it has the potato icon below.
