What is the story of New Leaf farm?
New Leaf Farm’s story starts with the owners, Dan Tara Waitkus. Tara had always dreamed of owning a hobby farm with a barn for horses, so in 2014 they began searching for the perfect rural setting. In this process, they learned of a different and trending use for a barn…weddings!
When was the barn at New Leaf farm built?
After searching for just the right location, house and barn, and not finding the combination of all three, they decided to purchase 30 acres in South Canaan, Pa build a barn in a hay field at the back of the property. Construction started in May of 2018 in Spring of 2019, the barn at New Leaf Farm was complete!
When did a new leaf start?
In 1986, we built our first 12,000 sq. ft. greenhouse and vocational training facility. Then in 2013, A New Leaf began operating group homes and providing 24-hour assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities living independently. Our residential program has grown each year since.
What is a new leaf journey?
Our Journey. A New Leaf’s mission is to provide people with developmental disabilities with life skills, marketable job training through horticultural therapy, community-based vocational placement, and residential services to increase their independence and individual choices.
When did New Leaf Farm start construction?
Construction started in May of 2018 & in Spring of 2019, the barn at New Leaf Farm was complete! Ever evolving, they continue to add to the venue as new ideas are inspired by the beautiful countryside that surround them. Dan & Tara live in a small brick farmhouse on the property & enjoy caring for the animals on the farm including horses Calvin & Bullseye, fainting goats Fern & Parsnip, a small flock of poultry & their dogs, Reggie & Violet.
Where is New Leaf Farm in Pennsylvania?
Available for weddings or any special gathering, New Leaf Farm offers a 50’ x 100’ barn venue situated on 30 acres, in a true country farm setting in South Canaan, Pa . We have seating for 170, and the barn can accommodate over 200 guests, who can also enjoy the surrounding grounds. The barn at New Leaf Farm is available for rent May through October.
Does the barn have a restroom?
Yes. The barn has both men’s and ladie’s restrooms. We also have a food prep room and a sitting room for the bride.
Who provides food for a wedding?
Food is provided by a caterer of your choice. We recommend using a licensed caterer. We will provide you with a preferred vendor list to assist in finding your caterer.
Can you rent a heated barn?
The barn is not heated. but you can rent heaters if the weather does not cooperate.

A New Leaf was established in 1979 to provide horticultural-related job training to adults with developmental disabilities.
How many greenhouses does A New Leaf have?
Today, A New Leaf is honored to serve 300+ individuals with developmental disabilities and autism through employment in six greenhouses, three retail centers, and community job sites. We also serve students in the classroom and individuals in residences needing different levels of support.
When was A New Leaf established?
A New Leaf was established in 1979 to provide horticultural-related job training to adults with developmental disabilities. We began with one greenhouse and one staff, and we served two individuals. By 1980, A New Leaf grew to serve 13 individuals.

Counselor in Training
Our Counselor in Training Program is a wonderful opportunity to participate in all camp activities while at the same time training to create learning opportunities and fun for younger campers. Under the supervision of teachers and adult counselors, you will develop an understanding of group dynamics and leadership skills.
Junior Farm Apprentice
Do you have a passion for growing plants and raising chickens? Are you interested in goatherd skills? Led by staff with extensive experience in both farming and animal education, the Junior Farm Apprentices are a small dedicated team that will take on some of the responsibilities of the farm.
